Happy Thanksgiving Day!

%{font-family:tahoma; font-size:12px;color:black}LearnHub would like to wish all Americans and students studying abroad within the U.S. a Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Historically, Thanksgiving was originally a religious observance for all the members of the community to give thanks to God for a common purpose.

Today, the tradition of giving thanks to God is continued in various forms. Families and friends usually gather for a large meal or dinner, where in contemporary fashion, each person may contribute words of blessing or thanks.

The number of foreign students enrolled in U.S. colleges climbed by 7 per cent during the last school year; the most dramatic increase reported in a decade, according to a report released this month by the Institute of International Education. Illinois ranks fifth for international student enrollment after colleges and universities in the state reported a 12.5 per cent increase in foreign students from 2006-2007 to 2007-2008.

A steady rise in international enrollments on college American campuses has spurred some universities to rethink how they expose visiting students to American culture beyond the classroom.

Peggy Blumenthal, executive Vice President of Institute of International Education says, “Too often when a graduate student comes here from India or China, for example, they can end up spending years here and not getting a sense of what America is like,” she said. “That’s the kind of thing these colleges are trying to work on. Students can go back with a deeper sense of what America really is, and our students will learn more about the rest of the world.”%

%{font-family:tahoma; font-size:12px;color:black}In fact, schools across America plan on preparing meals for a record number of foreign students and others who cannot travel home – complete with turkey, pumpkin chowder and vegan vegetable stew.

Palestinian Hussein Daraghma, a sophomore studying in America, already has a game plan for Thanksgiving: Arrive early and stay late. In holiday tradition, the 20-year-old Economics student will move on from the campus meal to a second dinner with his boss’ family. “It’s kind of nice to have people around you in these moments,” he said.

From everyone here at LearnHub, we wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend holiday!%
